The promise of change.

It seems as soon as I get something planned, everything changes. I'm working and planning towards our vacation next week. Yesterday my sister-in-law and I planned out meals. I got my menus worked out and went to Sam's Club after I got my hair done this morning. Then hubby and I went over the other items we need. Part of the fun of a vacation is planning it I guess. Last year our vacation was interrupted by a family wedding. It was a delightful day, but took one day of our vacation. This year we begin our vacation with a funeral. Our youngest sister-in-law lost her mother this week. So Monday the men will take the motorhomes up the canyon. I'll go pick up another sister-in-law from a doctor's appointment. Then we'll go pick up the men and go to Genola, Utah for the funeral. Life sometimes throws a curve. We need to be ready to change direction and move forward.
I have my quilt ready to tie. It's not a very large one, so it hopefully won't take very long. I'm taking knitting to the canyon. A change of pace! I hope your changes today are small and delightful!

Mid-week

I slept in AGAIN! I woke up at 7:30 am and thought GREAT! It's a good start. Then an hour later I woke up again. A little later start, but I have got a lot done. We are having a Bishopric Party tonight and I'm doing a vegetable tray and dip. I thought I'd just buy a ready-made one, but it worked out to get each item separately. It actually cost a little less too. I also made the dip--quick and easy. So I'm already for a fun evening. I hope to get a little more done on my quilt this afternoon, especially since I won't make class tonight. I also hope to touch base with a dear friend who is struggling with infection from a wasp sting. She wasn't home earlier, so I hope she's not at the hospital again. Onward with a wonderful Wednesday!

Building Memories

We had a delightful evening with the whole Mills family last night. We went to Randy's home in Kaysville and enjoyed his pool and yard. We had yummy Indian Fry Bread Tacos and cookies and ice cream for dessert. We had over 60 in attendance and it was wonderful. Then we had five grandchildren sleepover at Grandma's house. Actually it worked out pretty well. For breakfast we had the new favorite--waffles and ice cream. It was really fun to watch them play and truly enjoy being with each other. My oldest grandson joined me at JoAnn's and picked out material for his quilt. It was kind of fun! Now I just need to find quilt time.
I'm slowly getting packed for the Spruces. I am slowly working on my quilt. I'm definately enjoying my days. (And I slept very well last night.) I hope your days are enjoyable too.

A New Week

Still getting some slow starts--why am I having trouble sleeping Again? Cleaned the kitchen and made brownies for a family party tonight. I'm getting a few things ready for our vacation next week. After lunch I got back to work on my quilt. I'm sure moving slow. Did get the backing ready, so hopefully I'll be on to the next step soon. A dear friend loaned me her quilting frame--I absolutely need to get me some. Hubby is bringing our oldest grandson here and he will go with us to the family party. It will be at Frank's brother's home and we will be swimming, eating, and visiting. Some granchildren are sleeping over, so I might not get very much done tomorrow. Oh, well. This too will soon pass and I won't have grandchildren sleeping over, so I'm going to really enjoy my time with them. Work and quilts will wait a day!

Delightful weekend

Got a slow start again. Did the grocery shopping--just a few items to get us through the weekend. Our son and family brought lunch and we enjoyed a good old-fashioned hot dog roast. (In the oven). We played games and had a great time. Our evening was quiet and we were able to get ready for Sunday. I need to plan for the coming week in many ways. I need to be more diligent in my eating plan--I tend to not count snacks. They are definately creating disaster with my system. I also need to plan for our Spruces vacation. Lots of things to pack and prepare. I look forward to a busy but happy week. I also appreciate the fact that I get my spiritual strength today. That is also a critical need. Happy July 26th!

Happy July 24th

Great day in the State of Utah! I woke up at 7 am--and 7:20 am--and 8 am. Finally got going, but I'm glad I could sleep in. We are having a Dutch Oven dinner tonight for our Ward. The Bishopric is preparing the meal. We have Dutch ovens in the kitchen and hopefully remembered all of the ingredients. Frank is cooking BBQ chicken, rice, and a Pineapple Upside-Down cake. The others are cooking their specialties, so it should be a wonderful meal. I've been thinking about some of my pioneer ancestors and I'm so thankful for their willingness to come out West with the Saints. Abigail Sprague Bradford came in 1847 and endured that first hard winter here. We are blessed to have such a great heritage. I hope your July 24th is enjoyable and blessed.

Wonderful Wednesday

Wonderful day today! My doctor is pleased because I've lost weight and my glucose level has gone from 7.8 to 6.9. I did have some labs today and am eager to find out what they show. I also finished my quilt top. Now I just need to get the backing ready. I also had lunch with two of the greatest ladies around. I did some shopping and went to my husband's office for a 20th anniversary surprise party for him. (Hopefully I'll have pictures tomorrow). Tonight I went to the quilting class and they showed us the next kind of quilt we are making. When I finish this one, I'll be moving on to a new one. I hope your Wednesday was wonderful.

This day has run the full gamet of emotions. I didn't sleep well and had trouble getting going today. At the doctor's appointment I was pleased that things are looking so good. I'm on the right path for improved health. Then I went to refill some prescriptions. They said it would be 30-40 minutes so I walked around the store a number of times to get my missed walk in. I did a little shopping and checked back after 40 minutes. They said it was almost ready. I sat down to wait. After 25 minutes I asked if it was done yet. She said she would check. THEN she said they were OUT of that medication, but it would be in later today. I was not a happy camper! After a lovely lunch I decided to work on my quilt top. Big mistake! I had to unpick one part four times. I hope its right this time. I'm taking a short break and hope that things go a little smoother. Tonight I'm having my Visiting teaching girls for dinner. I look forward to that. I hope you have things to look forward to today too.

Another week

The days are flying by! Saturday night we attended the YSA pool party at the Taylorsville pool. It was a neat gathering and there were about 125 attending. It was a fun activity. Sunday was delightful and then we enjoyed some time with family. This morning I tried to get back on schedule- A lovely walk, cooked breakfast, and then on to the day. I did some shopping at JoAnn's, looked around Shopko (couldn't find anything I liked until I ran into my Hubby shopping), and then went to WalMart for shopping. Bought a few yard games and then food for our Home Teaching dinner for tonight. After lunch I worked in my scrapbook room, cleaned some of my bedroom clutter, studied scriptures, and organized a few things. Not bad. At least I have a good start to the week. I hope you do too.

Busy, Busy

I juist dawned on me I didn't get here yesterday. I was a little lazy getting started, but had my hair done, did some shopping, read the paper, and then went with Frank after lunch. We attended a wedding at the Draper Temple. Beautiful! They are a darling couple from our Singles Ward. After the ceremony we went to Frank's office so he could finish his work. Then we went to WalMart to get a few things. We went home for a few minutes and then off to the Wedding dinner. It was a delightful evening.
Today I attended a baptism of a Primary girl. Sweet. We did some work, had lunch, and then went to the Harry Potter movie. I really liked it. It was different from the book in many ways, but it worked out well. I like this director. Tonight we are going to a YSA activity at Taylorsville Park and swimming pool. Keeping busy keeps me out of trouble, right? Hope your weekend is splendid!

Thursday already

Where has the week gone? Had three grandsons that enjoyed waffles for breakfast again. They had a great time playing together and I got time to do a little sewing. Did well until the bottom row and put it on upsidedown. Seam ripper here I come. Looking forward to getting my hair done tomorrow and then attending a wedding of a couple from our Ward. Last night I had a sister from the Ward call to get the number of the Taylorsville police--their apartment had been burglarized. Someone took the computer. They were worried because they did their banking and other personal things on it. They have only been in that apartment a month.
I'm also looking forward to the weekend because we are going to see the Harry Potter movie. Hope you have a good weekend too.

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Wednesday is off to a good start. We had waffles for breakfast at the request of our grandsons. They like it when Frank lets them put ice cream on it. The fun of being grandparents! The boys played a little and then we decided to go to Discovery Gateway. They had a ball with plastic balls, construction area, water play, the helicopter, the KSL tv stuff, and the play theater. Then we walked down to the water fountains. Looked like fun! Should have taken swim suits. We had Ben & Jerry's for lunch. (Don't tell their mothers!)
Now I'm enjoying finishing up some quilt blocks for class tonight while they play. Delightful!

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Ouch! I didn't realize my Sunday post didn't publish until today. Thank goodness I could pick it up in my drafts. Yesterday was a great day. I got my walk, spent time at JoAnn's, (my new favorite store), did some grocery shopping, and worked on my quilt top. Our evening was delightful too. We went out to dinner and then attended Hale Theatre's production of Hello, Dolly. I got to visit with a former teaching friend too. He was the only male on our faculty for many years.
Today I am working on my quilt top and waiting for my grandson to come. He will be with us for a few days, so I invited another grandson to come and join him. Hopefully we can find some fun things to do. I hope you have some fun things to do today too.

Sunday

I cannot believe how quickly time is going. I've had a difficult time making myself sit down and blog. We had a quiet weekend, but we enjoyed a visit from our son and grandchildren. It was fun playing games and visiting. Today we will enjoy attending meetings and strengthening our spirits so we can make it through another week. I am enjoying working on quilt blocks for our class Wednesday. I'm eager to get back to them tomorrow. I am really enjoying this new opportunity in my life. I am also very grateful for all of my blessings. I need to stop and remind myself of all the good things in my life. Frank is such a dear friend and companion. We enjoy our time together. My children and grandchildren are the joy of my life. My dear friends are supporative and loving. I still have health to enjoy my activities and have things that I love to do. We love our extended family and love spending time with them too.

Friday already?

Had a great time with my grandchildren. We had a lazy day yesterday and it was nice. Today I did the grocery shopping, had my hair done, and had a sewing machine lesson from a dear friend. I have also shortened a pair of levis and made them into shorts. Yay summer! I will have an evening to finish up things I haven't done this week. I look forward to a wonderful weekend and hope you have one too.

Grandchildren

Boy! Time flies when you are having fun! Our little granddaughter had a birthday yesterday and it was great fun. Age four is a time of magic, love and wonder at birthday time. Today we have two grandchildren staying with us while their Mom is in Chicago. We went to the Zoo and had a wonderful time. We saw the Bird Show which was Awesome! There were rides on the train and the carousel, lunch, and lots of animals. We are really blessed to have these special times with our grandchildren.

Monday, July 6, 2009

Another week. I have enjoyed a great walk, nice breakfast, scripture study, and work on a quilt. Why can't all my days go so smoothly? My daily chores are finished too. WaHoo! I'm going to continue work on the quilt. These are quilts for the Humanitarian Center. I was supposed to complete them three years ago. I hope it's better late than never. I'm sure they can still use quilts, and it will feel so good to have them done and delivered. I hope your week is fun, productive, and blessed.

Lovely Independence Day

We started our morning with our home Ward with a flag ceremony and breakfast. Delightful! Then we did our part in cleaning the Church building. Good experience. The rest of the day I spent just relaxing while hubby worked on a water-heater/water softner project. We enjoyed hot dogs and potato for lunch and then I took a nap. Frank continued on his project and I played a game on the Wii. After dinner our son and his family came by. Had a great visit. Their children will be staying with us for a few days this week. We had no fireworks to watch, but we still loved a good day and appreciate this wonderful country we live in. Hope your day was lovely too. Today is an opportunity to hear and share testimonies, and worship and learn. I love the freedom we have to worship in our own way. This too will be a blessed day.

Friday, July 3rd

Since my hubby had today off we had a quiet morning. I took my walk and then made breakfast. We worked on projects and then watched a Harry Potter movie. After lunch I took a nap. Yay! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and join me in appreciation of this wonderful country.

Rain Again

Unbelieveable rain this afternoon. Niagra Falls was flowing from the roof over my kitchen window. The sidewalk was a stream and the street was a river. The wind was blowing the rain everywhere. The thunder and lightning seems unending. I'm so thankful for my sturdy, warm home. I wonder what the pioneers did in this kind of weather.
I'm working on quilts this afternoon and taking breaks to look outside. Some of the work is starting to make sense and I'm actually enjoying my sewing--at least until the needle broke. Now where did I put those needles?
I'm also looking forward to the 4th of July weekend. We are so blessed to live in this nation. I love the patriotic songs and time together with family. I also enjoyed pictures of the grandsons on Amie's blog. It doesn't seem possible they were here a week ago--preparing to leave. They are pioneers as they live without furniture and personal belongings. They seem to be doing well considering their sparse living style at the moment. I'm glad the boys have toys and clothing that will get them through. You're a trooper Amie!

Wonderful Wednesday

I slept in a little and got a late start on my walk. Fortunately it was overcast and not too warm so I enjoyed my walk. I finished my project and I'm getting ready to mail it with Amie's things. I also had lunch with my dear friends and had a great visit. Tonight is the quilting class, and I'm eager to keep moving onward. I'm glad it's moving a little slow--step by step. I've hear it said that attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. I'm so thankful to my family and friends that buoy up my spirits and help me develop a better attitude. That is what makes life a joy. I'm eager to move forward and learn new things because they enrich my life so much. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
